Hello Patriots!

As summer comes to an end, I hope everyone had a fun, safe, and relaxing summer. I would like to thank all of you for your continued support as we prepare for another great school year. We are excited to welcome our students and families back to school!

To help ensure a smooth and successful start to the 2026–2027 school year, please take a moment to review the following reminders. As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.

Student Drop-Off and Pick-Up

Our student drop-off and pick-up areas are located in the back (south side) of our buildings. We ask that parents use the designated drop-off and pick-up lanes and remain in their vehicles. This helps keep the process moving efficiently while also ensuring the safety of our students.

Please do not use the front office to pick up your student at the end of the school day unless it is an emergency. We need to keep this area accessible for emergency situations.

If you need to drop off or pick up a student during the school day, please use the buzzer located by the front doors and stop by the office windows for assistance.

Bus Changes

If your student rides a bus and there is a change to their normal transportation plans, please call the office before 3:00 p.m. This gives us enough time to communicate the change to the appropriate teachers and bus drivers.

School Forms & Cafeteria Accounts

Please make sure all required school paperwork, including free and reduced-price meal forms, is completed and returned to the office.

As an extra incentive this year, any student who turns in all completed paperwork by Friday, September 25 will be entered into a drawing for a free iPad, with the drawing taking place on Friday, October 2!

Please also remember to stay current on your student's cafeteria account. Payments can be made through the school website or by check or cash using the school payment envelopes.

Thank you again for your continued support, patience, and partnership as we begin another school year. It has been wonderful seeing our students and teachers back in the buildings, and we are excited to get the year off to a great start!

Welcome Back, Granby 5-8 Families!

Dear Granby Families,

I hope everyone has had a great summer and is ready for another exciting school year! I am looking forward to beginning my third year as principal of Granby 5-8, and I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to continue serving the students, families and staff of our school.

One of the things that stood out to me during my two years at Granby, and continues to stand out today, is the people. We have students who care about their school, teachers and staff who care deeply about kids and families who want the very best for our students. That is something special, and it is something we should be proud of.

As we begin a new school year, my biggest goal remains simple: build relationships. Middle school is an important time in a child's life. Students are figuring out who they are, discovering new interests, facing new challenges and preparing for the next steps in their education. I want every student who walks through the doors of Granby 5-8 to know that they are valued, supported and capable of great things.

Back to School Night — Thursday, August 20 | 5:30 - 7:00 pm

First Day of School — Tuesday, August 25 | 8:00 a.m.

A Few Things About Mr. Trokey

Summer at the Trokey house is usually pretty busy! We have enjoyed spending time together as a family, getting outside and making a few memories along the way.  Two family road trips to Minnesota were the highlights of our summer.

Harrison and Parker continue to keep us busy with their activities and interests. Julia continues her work as a Nurse Practitioner at Cox Monett, and I am still happiest when I can find a little time to get outdoors.

I also continue to enjoy running, hunting, fishing and just about anything that gets me outside. If you see me around town or at a school activity, please stop and say hello!

As we start this school year, I want to encourage our families to get involved, ask questions and get to know the people who work with your children every day. Our school is at its best when students, families and staff work together.

Whether your family has been part of Granby for generations or this is your first year in our district, you are an important part of our school community. I am excited about the year ahead and all of the opportunities we will have to learn, grow and celebrate together.

I am excited to welcome everyone back and to make 2026–2027 a great year at Granby 5-8!

Sincerely,

Mr. Ethan Trokey
Principal, Granby 5-8
